Jimmy Kimmel’s offhand remark about having Italian citizenship, and the option to relocate, has sparked a fiery reaction from Fox News’ Outnumbered panel, who called his comments “disrespectful” and “out of synch and out of touch.”
The Podcast Comment That Lit the Match
Appearing on ex-girlfriend Sarah Silverman’s podcast, Kimmel mentioned that many Americans who dislike President Donald Trump have sought citizenship elsewhere. That’s when he revealed, “I did get Italian citizenship.”
He then added: “As terrible as you thought it was gonna be, it’s so much worse. It’s just unbelievable. I feel like it’s probably even worse than [Trump] would like it to be.”

The remarks came shortly after Trump suggested Kimmel and fellow host Jimmy Fallon could be next to lose their shows following Stephen Colbert’s surprise dismissal.
‘They Are Rolling Over in Their Graves’
Emily Compagno led the charge on Outnumbered, recalling her own family’s journey from Italy to America. It was a path that required renouncing their Italian citizenship. “They framed the U.S. citizenship on the wall. They were so proud,” she said, before citing author Russell Shorto’s remark that “the Italian government succeeded in accomplishing in 20 years what centuries of invaders of Sicily had not, which is bringing the island to ruin and starvation.” She said Kimmel’s comparison to “tyranny and starvation and oppression” ignored what her relatives actually fled.

Rachel Campos-Duffy took issue with the concept of dual citizenship itself, saying, “If you think America is not great, then stay and work for it. And by the way, you’re a multimillionaire, doing pretty good. America has been really good to Jimmy Kimmel. On the other hand, good riddance.”
‘Late-Night Is Destroyed’
Dr. Marc Siegel noted that Kimmel could easily afford “an incredible place in Tuscany” and accused him of further eroding late-night television. Harris Faulkner questioned why Kimmel would “give up everything he’s worked for” instead of competing in “the greatest country on the planet for making your dreams come true. Doesn’t he have any fresh ideas?”
Kellyanne Conway dismissed the exchange between Kimmel and Silverman as “two white rich liberals podcasting together in their safe spaces, complaining about this great country,” adding, “Then go somewhere else. Be my guest. And stay. There’s this great patriotic fervor just sweeping this country, and it just makes people like that not only seem unfunny but out of synch and out of touch.”
